Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
About The Role
Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, the HGV Mechanic will carry out vehicle maintenance tasks ensuring legal compliance of the fleet, including planned and preventative work as well as unscheduled maintenance, and document all maintenance works on the company’s vehicle maintenance software.
Shift pattern
: 4 on 4 off – 6:30am to 7:00pm
- Inspect, diagnose and repair vehicle faults to the company’s high standards as set out in the DVSA guide to maintaining roadworthiness
- Document all works carried out on the company’s maintenance records software
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in a timely manner with no undue delays
- Aim for a 100% MOT first time pass rate, not falling below the 95% national average
- Attend roadside or customer premises breakdowns to repair, arrange further diagnosis in the workshop, or arrange recovery where required
- Communicate effectively with colleagues daily
- Minimise downtime and ensure vehicles are available for the Service Delivery Department at the earliest opportunity
- Obtain correct authorisation for expenditure; ensure parts requests are accurate to avoid delays
- Wear appropriate PPE and report defective equipment immediately
- Assist the Workshop Foreman with scheduled equipment checks
- Keep the workshop clean and tidy
- Communicate any issues in the workshop to your shift Supervisor, Workshop Foreman or Vehicle Maintenance Manager
- Carry out any other tasks as instructed by Senior Management in keeping with the role
- Experience in a HGV workshop
- IRTEC Inspection Technician (or can be provided in first 6 months of employment)
- Operator’s License Vehicle Maintenance Compliance
- Category C license
- Knowledge of transport operations and operator licensing requirements
- Knowledge of DVSA’s Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and categorisation of defects
- Good understanding of current legislation and keeping up to date with changes
- IOSH Working Safely – desirable
- Knowledge of ADR regulations concerning carriage of dangerous goods by road – desirable
- Experience in the waste industry – desirable
- Category CE license – desirable
