Overview
At National Grid, Electrical/Mechanical Fitters are responsible for maintaining a wide range of works on Substation plant and equipment. This work is predominately outdoors and sometimes at height on a mobile platform. You will join an established team of fitters stripping down and rebuilding high voltage equipment, replacing worn/aged components. The role includes maintaining complex HV circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers and cable systems, plus all kinds of ancillary equipment such as DC battery systems, air compressors and generators.
This work includes installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation and repair, as well as routine condition monitoring.
- Strip down and rebuild high voltage equipment; replace worn/aged components.
- Maintain complex HV equipment including circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers and cable systems.
- Maintain ancillary equipment such as DC battery systems, air compressors and generators.
- Install new equipment and refurbish/maintain existing equipment.
- Fault investigation and repair; routine condition monitoring.
- Work outdoors, sometimes at height on a mobile platform, and follow safety procedures.
- A recognised apprenticeship in Electrical/Mechanical engineering OR an NVQ/Level 3 Electrical/Mechanical qualification with relevant fitting experience.
- Practical industrial engineering skills including installations, breakdown, repair and maintenance, fault finding, strip down and rebuild, and working to safety procedures and work specifications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Good level of computer literacy.
- Live within 30 minutes travel of Skelton Grange, Leeds, LS10 1RR
. - Desirable:
High Voltage engineering experience. - IOSH / NEBOSH.
- MEWP Licence.

A training programme will be provided to fill in skills gaps, which may require occasional stays away from home with generous mobility and overnight allowances. Throughout the year there may be some requirement for weekend work, for which overtime will be paid.
