Report to the Workshop Foreman, performing vehicle maintenance tasks and ensuring fleet legal compliance.

The Role

4 on 4 off - 6:30am-7pm

Ensure planned and preventive work is completed, unscheduled maintenance handled, and records updated in the company’s vehicle maintenance software.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair vehicle faults to high standards per the DVSA guide.
  • Document all works on the company’s vehicle maintenance software.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment promptly, avoiding undue delays.
  • Aim for a 100% MOT first‑time pass rate.
  • Attend roadside or customer premises breakdowns, request additional diagnosis if needed, or coordinate recoveries.
  • Communicate effectively with key colleagues daily.
  • Minimise vehicle downtime to support the Service Delivery Department.
  • Obtain correct authorisation for any expenditure; submit accurate parts requests.
  • Wear and report required PPE and any defective equipment.
  • Assist with scheduled equipment checks.
  • Keep the workshop clean and tidy.
  • Report any workshop issues to your shift supervisor, workshop foreman or vehicle maintenance manager.
  • Carry out any other tasks as instructed by senior management.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience in an HGV workshop.
  • IRTEC Inspection Technician qualification (or to be obtained within 6 months).
  • Operator’s License Vehicle Maintenance Compliance.
  • Category C license.
  • Knowledge of transport operations and operator licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of the DVSA Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and defect categorisation.
  • Good understanding of current legislation and staying updated with changes.
  • IOSH Working Safely qualification (desirable).
  • Knowledge of ADR regulations for dangerous goods (desirable).
  • Experience in the waste industry (desirable).
  • Category CE license (desirable).
