Out of Nurse Practitioner

The jobholder will, work independently within agreed protocols, demonstratingevidence based care in assessment, clinical examination, clinical decision making, diagnosis, planning of care, treatment, evaluation, health promotionand safe discharge of a client group presenting with surgical problems. The jobholder will coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of staff working withinthe principles of (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)./he will participate in mentorship and teaching programmes for multi-disciplinary groups within the department

The jobholder will provide senior nursing support, advice and professional leadership to a group of surgical wards

Thejob holder will work peripatetically within a ward environment caring for patients with surgical problems, delivering a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines,policies and protocols.

Therole is multifaceted including bed management, staff management and clinicalassessment responsibilities. The role covers nights 7 days a week and alsoweekends and bank holiday days.

The Out of Hours Nurse Practitioner Service provides support, advice and clinical expertise to 14 wards/areas out of hours and is mostly an autonomous role.

Candidateswill have significant experience at Band 5, ideally within the speciality,and be able to demonstrate good leadership qualities, an ability to work autonomously, an ability to work efficiently and effectively, excellentprioritisation skills and ideally extended clinical skills such ascannulation, venepuncture, catheterization, ECGs, ABGs and Line Bloods. Weare looking for an enthusiastic individual who has a passion for the delivery of high quality, patient focused care. You will support the Nurse Practitioner Team Leader, Lead Nurse, Matrons and Senior Sisters within allwards in the CSUs to provide expert, holistic care of high standards to boththe patients and their relatives.

Youwill be required:

Toassess deteriorating patients on the wards out of hours and be a contact forescalation of deteriorating patients. You will be required to work collaboratively with the Medical Team to ensure appropriate management plansare put in place.

Youwill be carrying the emergency crash bleep for Lincoln wing and Bexley wingand be expected to attend and participant the resuscitation of the unwellpatient.

Toact as the senior nurse out of hours, ensure appropriate staffing levelswithin individual wards, respond to complaint, support the ward staff todeliver high quality care and maintain the ward rosters. You will be required to uphold standards and promote best practice out of hours.

The successful candidate will support the senior nursing teams to robustly managethe wards and support all members of the Nursing teams

Youwill be required to manage beds across AMS working closely with the CSM outof hours.

Toact as a positive role model to all staff. Particular emphasis is on the needto ensure that all staff recognises their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner, and to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Toassess the wards staffing levels and skill mix to ensure they have the most appropriate skills and competencies to ensure the wards are staffed safelyand patients are safe. This may mean at times or on occasions there may be aneed for you to staff the wards either for a full shift or to support during busy times.
