OverviewThe Exhibition Shop Foreman oversees the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring all fabrication, electrical, carpentry, and finishing activities are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role is responsible for coordinating multi-disciplinary teams, maintaining equipment, managing materials, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule to support exhibition builds and installations.
ResponsibilitiesWorkshop & Team Management:
- Supervise and support joiners, electricians, painters/sprayers, and general workshop staff.
- Allocate daily and weekly tasks based on project priorities and team strengths for both site installation and workshop manufacture.
- Monitor progress on all builds to ensure deadlines and production schedules are met.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient shop floor environment.
Project Coordination:
- Review job briefs, drawings, and build specifications to properly assign work.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, and production teams for smooth workflow.
- Ensure all builds meet quality control standards before leaving the workshop.
- Order and manage materials, consumables, and stock required for ongoing jobs.
- Maintain all workshop tools, machinery, and equipment, ensuring they are serviced and safe to use.
- Identify equipment issues early and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safe working practices across all workshop operations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and housekeeping checks.
Production Delivery:
- Drive efficiency and problem-solve issues that may impact production timelines.
- Support teams in achieving high-quality workmanship while working to tight deadlines.
- Lead by example with strong work ethic, communication, and collaborative leadership.
- Proven experience as a workshop foreman, production supervisor, or similar role in exhibitions, joinery, fabrication, or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of carpentry, fabrication techniques, electrical practices, and paint/spray processes.
- Excellent organisational, time-management, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to read technical drawings, job sheets, and production plans.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Knowledge of health & safety standards and machinery maintenance best practices.
