Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Humanitarian and Conflict Trustee to join their Board of Trustees. This is a non-executive, governance-level role offering the opportunity to contribute strategic oversight and expert challenge within a values-led international development organisation.

The successful candidate will bring deep professional experience in conflict-affected contexts, humanitarian response, peace building, or related international development work. This expertise will support the Board in shaping strategy, governance, and decision-making in complex and fragile environments.

This role is suited to a senior international development professional who is motivated by mission-driven work and is committed to contributing their skills at Board level.

Responsibilities

As a Trustee, you will work collectively with the Board to:

  • Set and oversee the organisation’s long-term strategic direction.
  • Ensure effective governance, including legal, financial, and safeguarding compliance.
  • Provide oversight of organisational performance, operations, and risk management.
  • Bring informed insight on humanitarian response, conflict sensitivity, and engagement in fragile contexts.
  • Offer constructive challenge and strategic advice to the executive leadership team.
  • Contribute to the organisation’s evolving identity, partnerships, and approach to impact.
  • Act in the best interests of the organisation, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
Requirements
  • Significant professional experience in international development, humanitarian response, conflict, or peace building contexts.
  • Strong understanding of operating in conflict-affected or fragile environments, including emergency response.
  • Experience contributing at a senior or strategic level, such as Board, advisory, or executive leadership roles.
  • Ability to think strategically, ask insightful questions, and provide independent, external perspective.
  • Commitment to high standards of governance, safeguarding, and ethical practice.
  • Willingness and capacity to contribute time and expertise to Board meetings and related activities.
  • A clear commitment to the organisation’s faith-based ethos and values, which is an essential requirement for this role.
  • Opportunity to influence strategy and impact at Board level within a respected international development organisation.
  • Flexible, remote trustee role based in the UK.
  • All reasonable travel and role-related expenses reimbursed.
  • Opportunity to contribute professional expertise in service of a global humanitarian mission.
