** Role Overview
** The Customs and Excise Manager is responsible for overseeing internal excise compliance across the business. This role focuses on managing excise-related processes, coordinating internal audits, ensuring we are operating within the scope of our approvals, and providing oversight to the Customs and Excise Coordinator based in Scunthorpe.
** Key Responsibilities
*** Strong management skills including managing a team of up to 3 people.
* Develop, implement, and maintain internal excise compliance procedures in line with HMRC requirements.
* Lead the planning and execution of excise audits across all depots, ensuring documentation and controls are in place.
* Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified in excise audits in collaboration with site teams.
* Oversee the internal approval process for the supply of alcohol-containing products, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
* Act as a key liaison with the Scunthorpe Customs and Excise Coordinator, providing functional direction and ensuring consistent practices.
* Monitor and maintain accurate records of excise-controlled materials and their usage.
* Ensure processes for bonded goods, denatured alcohol, and warehouse compliance (where applicable) are fully adhered to.
* Escalate compliance risks, audit concerns, or approval issues to the Head of Customs and Excise.
* Provide support during internal and HMRC excise inspections.
* Contribute to training and awareness-building for depot and operations staff on excise requirements.

Skills and Qualifications
*** Strong understanding of UK excise regulations, including alcohol products and denatured alcohol controls.
* Experience conducting internal audits or regulatory inspections.
* Ability to interpret HMRC guidance and translate into practical, operational procedures.
* Skilled in working cross-functionally and remotely with operational teams.
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
* High attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, audit-ready records.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven experience in excise compliance preferably within a chemical or regulated industry.
* In-depth knowledge of UK customs regulations, UK Global Tariff, and excise duty rules.
* Familiarity with import/export documentation, INCO terms, CDS/CHIEF systems, and bonded warehouse operations.
* Experience working with controlled goods and chemical classifications (CLP/REACH awareness is beneficial).
