Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Blood Bank

Weare seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and professional Specialist Biomedical Scientist with experience in Blood transfusion.

Weare looking for suitably qualified, HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists whohave completed their Specialist Portfolio, or have completed the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice. You will work as part of a team covering both of our transfusion laboratories at Leeds General Infirmary andSt. Jamess University Hospital.

Candidates should have proven specialist knowledge of blood transfusion.

Theblood transfusion department is fully automated with Grifols Erytra technology including Grifols Blood Typing Manager, electronic issue using Clinisy Winpath Enterprise LIMS and Haemonetics Blood Track software.

Leeds Teaching hospitals is a large acute hospital trust with specialties including

Haematology and Oncology (Leeds Cancer Centre), Liver and Renal transplant,Cardiology, Leeds Major Trauma Centre, a dedicated Childrens hospital and alarge maternity unit.

The department operates a 24/7 service in which you will be required to fully participate, after suitable training.

Opportunities for further study and CPD are strongly supported. The laboratory is approved for training by the IBMS.

Main duties of the job

Asa HCPC registered biomedical Scientist your main duties will include:

Perform and interpret routine biomedical investigations by participating in regular daily workloads, as directed by management, inline with your skills, experience, and competencies

Maintain standards of conduct required by the HCPC to practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist.

To be an integral member of a team providing a clinical technical service and a high quality laboratory service.

Interpret, validate and authorise complex patient information and results.

To work independently when and as required by the service

Ensure compliance with all legislative and quality requirements of regulatory directives, accreditation bodies, and local management, including UKAS and MHRA and SOPs.

Utilise the Laboratory Information Management System(LIMS), Q-Pulse quality management database, and other relevant software toensure high-quality, reliable data capture and entry

Participate in quality management activities, including inspections, audits, and incident reporting as required.

Job responsibilities

To undertake specialist clinical technical investigations for the diagnosis,monitoring and treatment of disease

Blood component issues, using both automated technologies and manual techniques

Blood grouping, antibody screening and identification, direct antiglobulin testing,cross matching and issuing of components.

Under direction of the team lead co-ordinates effective workflow management with prioritisation of samples received within specialist area.

Useof LIMS to enter, manage, retrieve, interpret, validate and authorise complex patient information and results.

To participate in equipment testing, validation and adaptation as a function ofservice development.

Tooperate, maintain highly complex laboratory equipment safely and efficiently.

Use specialist expertise for complex trouble shooting and resolution of technical equipment failure and analytical processes.
