Thisis an apprenticeship where you will have the opportunity to earn while youlearn throughout the duration of the programme. You will be employed in athree-year Apprentice Operating Department Practitioner role on a fixed term contract at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and undertake your academic studies at our Higher Education Institute University of Huddersfield.

Main duties of the jobThe Apprentice Operating Department Practitionercourse is a three-yeareducation programme, working towards becoming a registered Operating Department Practitioner with a BSc Hons degree. The course combines work-based and academic learning between LTHT and an approved Higher Education Institute(HEI).
Asan Apprentice Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) you will be based, as apaid employee, within LTHT. Whilst you will be allocated to one specific hometeam, you will experience placements in various clinical areas across the CSU,allowing you to gain skills and knowledge in different specialty areas.
Youwill be required to achieve the standards set out by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), HEI and the Institute of Apprenticeships. Oncompletion of the Three-year programme you will be able to apply to join the register as an Operating Department Practitioner.
Duringthe education programme you will develop skills and knowledge that will allowyou to work in within a dynamic and challenging healthcare environment.
Tobe eligible to apply you must be able to evidence that you:
Meet the criteria outlined within the personal specification.
Are 18 years old or over.
Are able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary).
Have lived in the UK for continuous3-year period prior to start of the programme.
Have a valid visa for the full lengthof the apprenticeship until September 2029.

Jobresponsibilities
Aspart of the apprenticeship, you will be required to:
Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner (or otherregisteredhealthcare professional) with a focus on promoting patient health and independence
Successfully complete and pass the academic elements of the programme as specified by the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT), HEI and Institute of Apprenticeship standards. You will also be required to complete an apprentice portfolio that demonstrates learning andskills and complete an end point assessment.
Successfully complete the Operating Department Practitioner competencies related to HCPC standards as specified bythe Trust and the University
Have sound attitudes and behaviourscompatible with NHS Values and LTHT values as set out in The Leeds Way.
Work as part of a designated clinical care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the patient
Work with a mentor, taking responsibility for developing your own competence while on placements and attending academic study; maintaining evidence of your learning
Adhere to the policies and procedures required as an employee of LTHT
