The Vascular Access Specialist Team (VAST) is looking for an enthusiastic band 3perioperative assistant, ideally with previous experience of insertion ofvarious vascular access devices, though not essential as training will besupported throughout this role. The successful candidate would be required to embrace the key values of the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, known as The Leeds Way - Patient centred, Fair,Collaborative, Accountable and Empowered.

Please note this post will be set days working a 4-day week working Monday, Tuesday,Thursday and Friday.

Main duties of the job

There will be an expectation of ensuring theatre equipment and vascular access devices are stocked, and available for immediate use for theatre cases, including ordering stock and liaising with procurement,highlighting any potential issues early. The VAST runs 2 theatre sessions perweek, in David Beevers Day Unit, and this role will entail scrubbing for the invasive procedures with an element of training for new staff on understanding the processes of vascular access insertion.

responsibilities

The jobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirect care for patients in support of Perioperative Practitioners, and medical staff under the supervision of a registered Perioperative Practitioner.

The jobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as part of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan, implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholder will be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) and acting on own initiative to achieve the planned outcome and to contribute to ensuring that every operation is as safe and effective as possible.

The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

The jobholder will be expected to lead a team of perioperative assistants and apprentice perioperative assistants.

The jobholder will be expected to practice in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) policies, guidelines, standards and statutory requirements and operate within defined competency boundaries.

Additional Requirements
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
  • Competent in written, electronic and verbal communication skills
Experience
  • Significant experience of working within a healthcare setting delivering clinical, perioperative and personal care
  • Insight into roles responsibilities of post
  • Basic IT skills
  • Utilisation of planning and organisational skills
Qualifications
  • NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care
  • The Care Certificate or in the absence of this the applicant must successfully attain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.
