Overview
Health Promotion Nurse (Northeast England)
Internally, this role is known as Cancer Awareness Nurse. The role supports the Cancer Awareness Roadshow and health promotion activities across the Northeast region, with Sunderland as the centre and a 35-mile radius.
Responsibilities- Work as a core part of the Cancer Awareness team to engage people face-to-face, providing information on cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.
- Organise and deliver Cancer Awareness presentations and training to community groups; support other public health initiatives in Nurse-led Cancer Awareness activities.
- Collect and input data to evaluate local engagement activities.
- Get involved with other Cancer Awareness outreach activities in the local community.
- Manage a team of Health Awareness Volunteers and support them in Cancer Awareness activity where appropriate.
- Working as a core part of our Cancer Awareness team to engage people face-to-face, providing information on cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.
- Organising and delivering Cancer Awareness presentations and training to community groups and supporting other public health initiatives in our Nurse-led Cancer Awareness activities.
- Collecting and inputting data to evaluate local engagement activities.
- Getting involved with other Cancer Awareness outreach activities in the local community.
- Managing a team of Health Awareness Volunteers and supporting them to be involved with Cancer Awareness activity where appropriate.
- Registered Adult Nurse – NMC registration mandatory and must be maintained at all times.
- Experience in health promotion, practice nursing, occupational health, health visiting, district/community nursing or other adult nursing.
- Excellent verbal communication with ability to engage individuals in meaningful conversations and apply patient-centred coaching and motivational interviewing techniques.
- Proven ability to deliver public-facing work and address health inequalities with hard-to-reach groups.
- Understanding of data protection, quality assurance, and compliance policies.
- Excellent written, administration and organisational skills with ability to keep confidential records.
- Strong self-awareness to recognise development areas and seek training and support as needed.
- Flexible and autonomous with ability to:
- Travel across the Northeast of England; field-based with Sunderland as centre and a 35-mile radius.
- Work a pattern of 28 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, with occasional weekend shifts (up to 5 per year).
- Be eligible to drive; car allowance (£4,500) provided; must have a UK driver’s license and be prepared to drive distances as needed. The allowance is based on minimum business mileage of 5,000 per annum.
- Available to start on or before 06 April 2026.
