Our Reception team consists of a Reception Manager and 9 receptionists working throughout the week to cover our busy front desk and telephone system. This is a fast paced office environment that requires excellent communication skills, empathy, resilience, patience and some physical dexterity.
The hours for this role are as follows:
Monday - Friday 2pm - 6.30pm. 22.5 hours per week.
INTERVIEWS FOR THIS POSITION WILL TAKE PLACE WEDNESDAY 11TH FEBRUARY 2026.
Main duties of the job- To provide a professional service to patients via the telephone and digitally. Inform patients of general information about the practice. To be calm, friendly and polite at all times.
- To be aware of all policies relating to diversity and to represent the practice in a positive and professional manner.
- To make, change and alter appointments, working within the boundaries of the appointments protocols.
- To signpost requests for appointments to the appropriate service after appropriate discussion with the patient.
- To be familiar with the Practice Boundary and to register patients appropriately. Deal with patient deductions which includes manual handling.
- To offer new patients information about the practice and its services both verbally and using printed materials.
- To prepare repeat prescriptions.
- To be familiar with the principles of confidentiality, Caldicott, Governance and data protection and always be mindful of these during face to face and telephone encounters with patients/doctors and other staff.

To be the first point of contact for patients over the telephone, digitally and face to face at the Reception desk. Book appointments, provide information, give test results and signpost patients to appropriate services.
To act as a first point of contact for patients and to represent the practice in a polite, professional and caring manner.
To have a general knowledge of the processes and procedures within the practice in order to advise patients relating to any and all enquiries.
To be able to inform patients of test results.
To action patient prescription requests and liaise with Medicines Management Team.
To signpost patients to other services both internally and externally.
To be familiar with the computer system in order to be able to carry out the duties outlined.
Filing patient files which includes manual handling.

- Preferably educated to O Level / GCSE standard, but certainly with evidence of a sound education with English and Maths as minimum. Evidence of IT literacy.
- Experience of and success erience of working with a team, and promoting team spirit. Experience of working in an IT environment. Experience of working with members of the public. To be able to use ladders to retrieve patient files.
- Working in a NHS GP Practice or busy office environment.
