General Practice Assistant (GPA) / Rosedean House Surgery / 40 hours per week
Are you passionate about patient care and looking for a rewarding role at the heart of a busy GP practice? We’re looking for a General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our friendly, supportive, and multidisciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands‑on patient care with administrative responsibilities, helping to improve patient flow and reduce GP workload — all while working within a clearly defined and supported scope of practice.
Aboutthe Role
As a General Practice Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting GPs, nurses, and the wider practice team. You’ll help prepare patients for consultations, carry out basic clinical tasks, manage clinical correspondence, and ensure patients receive a smooth, efficient, and compassionate service. You’ll be patient‑facing, organised, and confident using IT systems, with training and support provided where required.
Key Responsibilities- Preparing patients by taking basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, weight)
- Performing ECGs and urine dip tests
- Supporting with wound care, dressings, and immunisations
- Explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients
- Arranging follow‑up appointments and managing test results
- Liaising with hospitals and external services on behalf of clinicians
- Potential involvement in phlebotomy (subject to training and competence)
- Processing and coding clinical correspondence accurately
- Maintaining patient records using EMIS / Systm One
- Managing patient queries via phone, email, and in person
- Booking appointments, referrals, and follow‑ups
- Sorting clinical post and preparing documentation for GP sign‑off
- Ensuring consulting rooms are stocked, clean, and equipment sterilised
- GCSEs (or equivalent)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong IT skills and confidence using clinical systems
- Highly organised with excellent time management
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
- A patient‑centred, professional, and non‑judgemental approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Adaptable, reliable, and eager to learn
- Previous experience working in a busy GP practice
- Familiarity with EMIS or Systm One
- Experience with basic clinical procedures
- Work in a supportive and collaborative practice environment
