Required to fill this new, 10 PA post within the Emergency Department at the Leeds General Infirmary/St Jamess University Hospital.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team within the Emergency Department at the Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital. The creation of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust represents a unique opportunity for the city to become home to one of the leading health care institutions in the world, excelling inpatient care, teaching and research.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has undertaken a major investment in its Emergency Medicine services to provide specialist Consultant led trauma care at the Leeds General Infirmary which has been designated a Major Trauma Centre, and a 24/7

Consultant presence in the Emergency Department.

The Emergency Departments in Leeds have an excellent reputation for quality, innovation and education. The Emergency Medicine service treats in excess of 220,000 new patients per year. Acute services in Leeds have undergone extensive reconfiguration to deliver trauma based services and paediatrics onthe LGI site and acute and elderly medicine at St Jamess. The Emergency Departments have undergone modifications to reflect these patient flows,including expansion of the Paediatric ED on the LGI site and Same Day Emergency Care unit at St James Hospital.

All Consultants work across all areas of the Emergency Departments on both sites.

Main duties of the job

You should possess FRCEM (or FRCPCH or equivalent) (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the  accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

The Trust is committed to providing sustainable consultant-delivered services to ensure the quality of the patient experience. Working patterns that provide senior cover throughout 24 hours per day, seven days per week will therefore be required.

Successful candidates will be expected to work with the Trust and its consultant staff to deliver service patterns and job plans that meet this objective.

Applicants should have established skills in Emergency Medicine and may have a subspecialty. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilities

This post is for a 10 PA consultant in Emergency Medicine. Applications are invited from candidates withwide experience in emergency medicine. Part time working will be considered.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering care to Adults and Children within the Emergency Departments and an associated follow up clinic. Other important components include the supervision and training of Emergency Medicine trainees and subspecialty trainees in Emergency Medicine based within the ED.

2.OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

Todeliver care to patients with Urgent Care needs at SJUH / LGI

Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings

Tolink with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams withinthe Urgent Care CSU and across the Trust

Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings

2.3 ED consultants are expected to work arota encompassing shifts covering the full 24/7 cycle with a specific PAquantum allocated dependent for each shift.
