Financial Manager
This role is Deputy Director Finance Business Partner for Policy Group. This includes supporting Policy Group to deliver a range of policies relating to labour market, poverty and skills and effectively sponsor DWP’s Arms-length bodies. The combined business budgets is approximately £750 million , with oversight of c1,550 FTEs. Reporting to the Strategic Finance Director, the postholder will work closely with multiple Policy Director Generals and their teams to embed financial rigour and value for money into decision-making.
You will lead a team of around 24 skilled finance professionals, including three team leaders, delivering high-quality financial advice, performance analysis, and business partnering services. This is an exceptional opportunity to combine financial acumen with a passion for shaping policy outcomes and influencing ministerial and HM Treasury engagement on complex financial issues.

- Provide expert financial insight, support and challenge to senior stakeholders across Policy Group.
- Lead the development, production and analysis of robust financial forecasts, multi-year plans, and performance metrics.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and clearly communicated financial management information using data and analytics tools.
- Represent Finance on senior boards and with ALBs
- Oversee the development and monitoring of sound business cases with strong commercial focus, risk management, and governance controls.
- Build trusted relationships with senior leaders across DWP, managing expectations and influencing outcomes.
- Act as the finance focal point for Policy Group in interactions with HM Treasury and Ministers.
- Promote evidence-based decision-making and uphold the highest standards of financial professionalism.
- Lead through complexity and ambiguity with resilience, self-awareness, and openness to feedback.
