At Metro Bank, we believe the best banking experience starts with people who genuinely care. We’re not just delivering banking services – we’re building trust through authentic connections. Here, our people come first; our colleagues are part of a team that values individuality, collaboration, and long‑standing relationships.

As the Senior Risk Manager you will establish the operational, conduct and financial crime risk framework within Institutional Banking & Professional Services (IB & PS), ensure the adherence and execution of end‑to‑end controls, and lead the delivery of operational, conduct and financial crime priorities and strategic risk initiatives for the team.

You will achieve this through strong senior internal stakeholder engagement, leading IB & PS’s involvement in operational, conduct and financial crime change and projects, and consultation with other senior risk stakeholders across the Bank and in various risk committees.

What you will do:
  • Shape the IB & PS team's first line of defence framework across all risk disciplines, establish risk appetite across the team, and where appropriate challenge the Bank's policies and minimum standards, within regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the team's response to operational and conduct risk changes arising from transformation and technology projects, annual product reviews, assurance and audit reviews, and self‑assessment processes, including coordination of the risk control self assessment and vulnerable customers maturity assessment.
  • Represent IB & PS in internal governance forums, and change, business readiness and transformation meetings where they relate to financial crime or other risk disciplines, influencing the design and objectives of working groups set up to improve processes, manage issues under management or incidents, or close policy gaps.
  • Identify issues where processes could be improved or where risk management gaps are evident and create and drive delivery of solutions to bridge the gap and create more efficient processes.
  • Manage the Business Continuity Plan and Business Impact assessment of IB & PS, and assist RMs with bump ups related to operational resilience, incident management, vulnerable customers, conduct risk and compliance with Consumer Duty.
  • Proactively educate other business areas and key internal stakeholders on the unique areas of IB & PS and our financial crime, operational and conduct risks, to help them understand our processes and business context and influence the way they interact with the team.
  • Be an active member of the IB & PS leadership team, challenging and driving changes to internal policies and procedures, and communication of risk projects and initiatives to the wider IB & PS team.
What you will need:
  • Prior exposure to IB & PS sectors and transactional banking products for intermediary sectors.
  • Change, transformation or project management in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Highly skilled at developing relationships both internally and externally.
  • Preparing, analysing and monitoring Management Information.
  • Worked in a compliance‑based environment with a strong understanding of conduct and operational risk, AML, PEP/SIP management and financial crime regulation.
  • Recognised financial crime qualification e.g. ICA Advanced Certificate in AML or Fraud, ACAMS certificate; but if not, you should be willing to work towards this qualification or an equivalent
  • Excellent detailed knowledge of UK financial and professional services firms and introducer sectors, including the UK pensions, platform, insolvency practitioner, block management and trust markets, and any other sectors in which IB & PS plays an active role, and familiarity with related financial services markets such as financial advice and the regulatory environment.
  • Strong product knowledge of the IB & PS proposition, along with an understanding of the supporting infrastructure we provide for these customers (e.g. Commercial Online Banking and bulk file transfers).
  • Planning your work schedule and…
