Legal Cashier

Salary: 28,000 - 35,000 (DOE)
Location: Leeds City Centre (Hybrid working available)
Hours: Monday - Friday, Full-time
Full-time, Permanent Position

We are seeking a detail oriented, proactive, and highly organised Legal Cashier to join our client's busy Leeds office. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of all financial processes within the firm. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in legal finance who is looking to further develop their skills within a supportive and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities of the Legal Cashier
  • Process daily financial transactions including office and client account payments
  • Maintain accurate ledgers and cashbooks in compliance with SRA Accounts Rules
  • Complete daily bank reconciliations for both office and client accounts
  • Process client and office receipts, ensuring accurate matter posting
  • Handle supplier invoices and prepare weekly/monthly payment runs
  • Monitor client account balances to prevent breaches and escalate where required
  • Support fee earners with billing, transfers, write offs, and financial queries
  • Prepare financial reports for management and assist with month end and year end processes
  • Assist in internal and external financial audits
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and internal financial procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
The Key Requirements of the Legal Cashier

Essential:

  • Previous experience as a Legal Cashier or in a similar legal finance role
  • Strong understanding of SRA Accounts Rules
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines
  • Confident using legal accounts systems (e.g., LEAP, Proclaim, Osprey, SOS, or similar)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • AAT qualification or willingness to work towards it
  • Experience working within a law firm environment
  • Knowledge of VAT regulations relating to legal services
  • Ability to identify improvements in processes or workflows
  • Positive attitude, proactive approach, and strong problem solving skills
