Start: Immediate
Location: UK-based (company HQ in Buckinghamshire)
OverviewWe are seeking a Contract Design Engineer with strong experience in hydraulics and/or propulsion‑related complex mechanical systems. This role focuses on the design and development of launch systems for UAV platforms, so experience working on high‑pressure, high‑energy or mechanically complex systems is essential.
Candidates should have a proven background designing robust, manufacturable solutions involving sheet metal structures, hydraulic or pneumatic actuation, and tightly integrated mechanical assemblies. Experience with in aerospace, defence, motor sport, heavy machinery or any environment involving launch mechanisms, actuation systems or propulsion technology would be highly relevant.
This is a technically challenging programme requiring practical engineering judgement and the ability to design systems that operate reliably under demanding conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for launch systems and propulsion platforms
- Generate detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings
- Design sheet metal structures, enclosures and brackets for aerospace applications
- Develop and integrate pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Support system layout, packaging and integration activities
- Work closely with manufacturing to ensure DFM/DFA principles are applied
- Participate in design reviews and technical problem‑solving sessions
- Support prototype builds, testing and design refinement
- Strong background in mechanical design within aerospace, defence, motor sport or high‑performance engineering environments
- Proven experience designing sheet metal components and assemblies
- Hands‑on experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems integration
- Experience working on propulsion, launch systems, UAVs or similar high‑energy mechanical systems
- Proficient in 3D CAD (Solid Works, NX, CATIA or similar)
- Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings to manufacturing standard
- Experience working in fast‑paced prototype environments
- Experience in UAV or aerospace vehicle development
