Lead Civil Design Engineer

Position: Lead Civil Design Engineer (Contract)
A company in the water sector is currently seeking a Lead Civil Design Engineer for a 12‑month contract. This freelance position can be hybrid, flexible, or remote for the right candidate and involves work on major programmes such as Living with Water and various clean and dirty water schemes. The role is inside IR35, with expenses covered for site visits.

Key Responsibilities

Leading civil design engineering projects within the water sector
Collaborating on major programmes, including large pumping stations and storm overflow systems
Designing and delivering clean and dirty water projects (infrastructure and non‑infrastructure)
Providing technical expertise and guidance on engineering best practices
Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
Supervising and mentoring junior engineers
Engaging with clients and stakeholders, including collaborations with organisations such as Stantec and the Environment Agency

Job Requirements

Proven expertise in civil design engineering within the water sector
Experience designing and implementing large pumping stations and storm overflow systems
Strong understanding of infrastructure and non‑infrastructure works for clean and dirty water
Proficiency in technical and detailed design
Strong project management and team‑leading skills
Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities
Flexibility to work hybrid, flexible, or remote as required
Ability to start ASAP with immediate interview availability
