We’re delighted to be recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Building Environments team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in Building Services who is keen to contribute to industry leading designs within a vibrant, collaborative, multi-disciplinary practice based in Leeds.

You’ll play a key part in delivering innovative solutions on unique, high profile developments that shape the built environment and push the boundaries of sustainable design.

• Heritage Retrofits with a Modern Twist – We’re breathing new life into historic landmarks, such as the Great Yarmouth Winter Gardens, a full retrofit of a 120-year-old Grade II
  * listed glasshouse on the seafront. This project blends cutting‑edge engineering with sensitive restoration, preserving heritage while meeting modern sustainability standards.
• Sports Sector Developments for Elite Performance – From world‑class training facilities to stadium expansions, we’re helping leading Premier League and Premiership rugby teams create spaces that inspire athletes and fans alike. Our recent work includes the Leeds United Stadium Expansion.
• Transformative Commercial and Residential Schemes – We’re shaping vibrant urban environments through major developments like York Central, an ambitious masterplan featuring hotels, offices and residential blocks. These projects redefine city living and working, with a strong focus on sustainability and community impact.

• Undertake detailed mechanical building services design and calculations, using Revit, IES and hand calculations to ensure robust, high quality engineering solutions.
• Prepare technical specifications, schedules, design development reports, correspondence and innovative design solutions.
• Produce and review reports, presentations, models and drawings to a high standard of accuracy and clarity.
• Plan, coordinate and manage Revit inputs to support the production of multidisciplinary design work.
• Work collaboratively with coordinators, senior engineers, associates and colleagues across disciplines on a wide range of UK and international projects.
• Represent Buro Happold at meetings with clients, architects, suppliers and other professionals, acting autonomously where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for the design and delivery of mechanical engineering elements across multiple projects, ensuring work is completed to an excellent standard, on time and within budget.
• Embrace new technologies and approaches that enhance performance, sustainability and progress towards net zero carbon targets.
• Contribute to project value, including supporting aspects of financial management alongside project leads.
• Actively engage in team discussions, events and seminars, supporting a collaborative and knowledge sharing culture.
