Job Description & How to Apply Below

Asset Cool is addressing one of the most pressing challenges in the global energy transition - grid congestion. By combining cutting‑edge grid robotics with breakthrough materials science, our technology transforms the physical performance of the grid in situ, increasing current‑carrying capacity by up to 30%, at just 5% of the cost and in a tenth of the time compared to conventional approaches.

In addition to enhancing capacity, our solutions tackle other grid constraints including corrosion, electrical noise, and enable the collection of high‑value data to build accurate, predictive digital twins. This technology is proving transformative and is being adopted at an accelerating pace, with deployments across Canada, Slovenia, the UK, and the USA, and a strong global deployment pipeline.

Asset Cool is a fast‑growing company with plans to more than double in size over the next six months. Backed by international investors from the US, mainland Europe, and the UK, we are proud to be one of the most innovation‑focused companies in the UK energy sector.

We’re looking for ambitious, mission‑driven individuals who are excited to work hard alongside their colleagues to build and deploy world‑leading technology that tackles some of the planet’s most urgent infrastructure challenges.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer to join our growing team and take technical ownership of PCB design and development for field robotics systems. You will lead the end‑to‑end electronics development of power, interface, and communication boards deployed in harsh, real‑world environments. This role spans the full product lifecycle: from early architecture and schematic design through prototyping, certification, and field deployment.

You will play a critical role in delivering safe, reliable, and scalable robotic solutions for outdoors power transmission infrastructure. This is a hands‑on senior role suited to an engineer who enjoys owning hardware designs, mentoring others, and making pragmatic engineering decisions for systems that must perform reliably in challenging field conditions. You will work closely with mechatronics, embedded software, and production engineers to deliver robust and reliable products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the architecture, design, and development of PCBs for field robotics systems, including power, interface, and communication boards.
  • Design schematics and multi‑layer PCB layouts optimised for performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Lead the transition from R&D prototypes to production‑ready electronics.
  • Apply DFM, DFA, and DFT to ensure scalable and repeatable operation.
  • Select components with consideration for supply chain resilience, derating, thermal & vibration performance, and long‑term availability.
  • Design for operation in harsh environments including extreme temperature & humidity, vibration, and EMI.
Testing & Validation
  • Define and execute verification and validation plans for electronic assemblies and integrated systems.
  • Perform hands‑on debugging and root‑cause analysis at component, PCB, and system level.
  • Develop test fixtures and procedures for prototype and production testing.
  • Support environmental, electrical, and stress testing to validate field robustness.
  • Analyse field data and failure reports to drive continuous design improvements.
Standards Compliance & Certification
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical safety and regulatory standards (CE, UKCA, UL, IEC, IPC).
  • Lead EMI/EMC design strategy and support compliance testing and mitigation.
  • Prepare technical documentation required for certification and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain traceable design records, test reports, and revision control.
Production Support & Quality
  • Act as the technical authority for electronics during manufacturing ramp‑up and production.
  • Support PCB fabrication, assembly, and test with external manufacturing partners.
  • Review and approve manufacturing test methods and quality procedures.
  • Lead investigation of production and field failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Support component sourcing decisions and lifecycle management.
