Mechanical Design Manager

My client is looking for a Mechanical Design Manager. They are a well-established Building Services Contractor based in south London with over 40 years experience in the industry who have worked on many high-end commercial projects in central London typically up to £10m in value (M&E), as well as an exciting portfolio within the Healthcare and Education sectors. They are currently going through an exciting period of growth, doubling turnover in the last couple of years and are looking to add an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work in an Engineering and Design Management capacity, to be based at their office in south London.

Position Overview As a leading member of the design department, you will oversee the successful delivery of mechanical services design packages from receipt of initial design brief to completion of the design for implementation by contract management and site teams.

Responsibilities include:

Provide design leadership through all project stages from concept design, tender packages, and detailed design to installation support and commissioning. Oversee mechanical design output across HVAC, Public Health, heating, cooling and domestic services systems. Carry out site visits and surveys. Perform technical reviews, approve design calculations, specifications, and drawings. Work collaboratively with internal project teams, architects, clients, and subcontractors. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and project requirements.

Manage design programmes, resources, and workflows to meet project deadlines. Undertake value engineering exercises and contribute to design strategies to improve efficiency and sustainability. Support site teams with design-related queries, RFIs, and technical resolutions. Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project presentations. Assist with tender submissions, feasibility studies, and technical input for bids when required. Mechanical Design Manager Preferred P erson Specification Degree level qualification or equivalent in Mechanical / Building Services Engineering (minimum HNC/HND) Proven background in mechanical building services design, ideally within a contractor or design-and-build environment.

Strong understanding of relevant standards, design practices, and industry software (Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD/Revit, BIM desirable). Excellent technical communication, coordination, and organisational skills.
