Job Description & How to Apply Below

As an Educational Psychologist, your practice is underpinned by core values including the belief that everybody and every situation has the potential for positive change. Your practice is based on working collaboratively to improve outcomes for children and young people.

In Leeds Educational Psychology Team our practice is guided by these principles. As a team we work through a delivery model which focuses on consultation, problem solving and multi-agency working. Our culture of working relationally and restoratively is strongly embedded, enabling positive working relationships with settings and placing the voices of children and families at the centre. We are proud that we have a core offer of support to all maintained schools and academies.

The team works system-wide across Leeds, collaborating on exciting initiatives including trauma-informed working and enhancing services for neurodivergent young people. We work closely with the Virtual School, Youth Justice Service and Area Inclusion Partnerships to support children with social, emotional and mental health needs, and reduce exclusions. All main grade EPs have time allocated for research and development. Currently, we have groups working on projects relating to executive functioning, community psychology and Trauma Informed Practice.

We have vacancies for qualified educational psychologists and can offer permanent contracts on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis. You must hold a postgraduate qualification in educational psychology.

Based within the council’s Learning Inclusion Service, we are part of Leeds children’s services, rated by Ofsted as outstanding in overall effectiveness.

We are committed to the ambition of Child Friendly Leeds. We want Leeds to be a city where all children are safe, happy and healthy, do well at school, fulfil their potential and grow up to be active citizens with voice and influence.

Leeds City Council is one of the largest employers in the region with over 14,000 employees. We seek to recruit and develop talented individuals who embody our council values and ambitions.

About you

As an Educational Psychologist you will bring to the role:

  • a postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • ability to assess school and individual needs through consultation and analysis of information, and to devise interventions and evaluate impact
  • effective interpersonal and communication skills, sensitivity, flexibility, self-motivation and reflexivity
  • knowledge of evidence-based practice for supporting children’s progress and well-being
  • collaborative working style to maintain effective links with colleagues and partners in an inter-agency environment
About the role

As an Educational Psychologist working in Leeds, you will be part of an exciting and vibrant Educational Psychology service.
