About The Role
Leeds Sixth Form College is recruiting for a Teacher of GCSE Business and/or Citizenship. This role is to work within our Step Up to A Level (SUTA) provision in which we have 16-18 and 19+ learners studying resit GCSEs. It would suit someone who is looking for an alternative to working in a secondary school environment and/or someone that has interest in working in a sixth form setting with the range of courses on offer.
Due to business and student demand there may be a requirement to teach GCSE Citizenship also. Leeds Sixth Form College is a combined provision of A Levels, GCSEs and vocational courses which provides a diverse range of full-time education programmes for learners aged 16-18 and adult learners aged 19+. The provision ranges from Level 2 to Level 3 and includes both traditional academic and vocational pathways.
For 16-18 year olds, the curriculum includes over 20 A Level subjects as well as a range of BTEC courses with different weightings, to ensure we develop learners in a wide variety of subject areas to meet local employer and skill needs. We complement this with a GCSE-focused provision to further widen opportunities for local learners. Please note, this is a 0.5 FTE part-time position.
- Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans for GCSE Business/Citizenship at Level 2.
- Develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of learners.
- Assess and provide feedback on student progress.
- Support learners in achieving their educational goals.
- Ensure compliance with all college policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall learning experience.
- Maintain and update knowledge of the subject and/or vocational area and of educational research to develop evidence-based practice.
- Motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression.
- Enable learners to share responsibility for their own learning and assessment, setting goals that stretch and challenge will be a key aspect of your role and you will contribute to the learner tutorial process ensuring regular review of learner progress and report evenings take place.
- You will have English and Mathematics at Level 2 or above and a willingness to improve in one or both disciplines to level 3 or above.
- Appropriate Level 5 teaching qualification e.g. Level 5 Award in Education and Training, QTLS or PGCE.
- Relevant up to date subject knowledge and recent delivery in the Further Education or school sector.
- Recent teaching delivery in relevant subject areas.
- You will be highly motivated to engage and inspire learners, to promote achievement, and develop their skills to enable progression.
- You will be able to apply restorative practice to your communications with learners and colleagues and be a proactive, flexible and supportive member of the team.
