Teacher of Physics

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of Physics to join our successful and forward-looking Physics department. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate physicist to teach their subject with depth, ambition and intellectual freedom, within a school that values academic rigour and curiosity.

You will teach combined science in Y7 and physics from Y8 to 13, delivering high-quality lessons that stretch and challenge pupils of all abilities while fostering confidence, curiosity and a genuine love of the subject. You will be encouraged to teach physics as a way of thinking about the world, developing pupils’ conceptual understanding, problem‑solving skills, and independence of thought.

You will join a supportive and highly collaborative and forward‑thinking department, where subject expertise is valued, and teachers are trusted as professionals. Strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents sit at the heart of school life, and you will be expected to contribute positively to the wider academic, pastoral, and co‑curricular life of the school.

The Physics Department

The physics department is strong and well‑established at GSAL, characterised by high expectations, excellent outcomes, and a shared commitment to outstanding teaching and learning. The department is well resourced, with modern specialist laboratories, excellently resourced with extensive and modern equipment, enabling practical work to sit at the heart of physics teaching.

All pupils study combined science in Y7 and physics in Y8 and 9, with strong uptake and excellent results at GCSE and A level. Many pupils progress to degree courses in physics, Engineering and related disciplines. Teaching in the department emphasises enquiry‑led learning, secure conceptual understanding, and the application of physics to real‑world contexts.

Schemes of work extend beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum and examination specifications, giving teachers the freedom and flexibility to enrich the curriculum, draw on their own subject interests and challenge pupils intellectually. There are also opportunities to contribute to a varied programme of enrichment, trips and co‑curricular activities, both within the UK and overseas.
