Sustainability Student Placement (Fixed term 12 months)
Join to apply for the Sustainability Student Placement (Fixed term 12 months) role at Leeds Beckett University
Job Description
This role is only open to current students of Leeds Beckett University who are in the 2nd year of an undergraduate course that allows for a full year placement, typically a 3‑4 year course. Our sustainability student placement works as part of the sustainability team, delivering a wide range of work supporting sustainability initiatives at the University. Whether or not your course has sustainability focused modules, if you have an interest in sustainability and want a broader experience in your placement year, this role may fit you well.
At the heart of the job is Beckettsphere, our in‑house behaviour change initiative that champions the UN Sustainable Development Goals. You will promote Beckettsphere, foster teams, and organise engaging events. Additionally, you will amplify our sustainability initiatives through social media, blog posts and physical marketing, working with colleagues from the University’s communications team.
You can expect diverse experiences, from participating in meetings with colleagues at all levels to conducting statistical analysis. You will sharpen your report‑writing skills and contribute to critical evaluations that guide the University’s decisions. You will also have a hand in recruiting your successor, gaining insights into the recruitment process from drafting job descriptions to sitting on the interview panel.
No two student placements are alike; here, your individuality thrives. Some may innovate new projects or contribute to Beckettsphere’s evolution. Whether you find your niche in report writing, analysis, promotions, creating videos, or organising events, you will build upon your strengths and discover new talents. Throughout the placement year you will grow professionally and personally, preparing you for the next step after graduation.
Previous placement students often find their experience shapes their future career plans, leading to further studies or competitive graduate schemes.
Closing date Monday 2nd February 2026 (23.59). Please note that you will not be able to edit or submit a part‑completed application form after the closing date. Interviews are expected to be held on Thursday the 12th of February 2026 (subject to change). For more information, contact Gareth Milson at
