Primary Teaching Assistant :
Supply :
Leeds

Randstad Education is currently searching for a specific type of educator. We need candidates who combine the technical skill of Phonics interventions with the emotional intelligence required for 1:1 SEN support. We are working with Primary schools across Leeds who need professionals to help close the gap for their most vulnerable learners.

Role Overview

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit at the back of the class washing paint pots. This is an active, intervention-focused role where you will be:

  • Phonics Expert: Leading small groups or 1:1 sessions using schemes like Read Write Inc, Jolly Phonics, or Letters and Sounds. You will be the key to unlocking literacy for children who are falling behind.
  • 1:1 Champion: Working exclusively with children with additional needs (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, or Speech and Language difficulties). You will be their anchor, adapting the curriculum so they can access it alongside their peers.
  • Confidence Builder: Turning “I cant” into “I just did.”
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Phonics sessions to support literacy development.
  • Provide 1:1 SEN support, adapting lessons and materials.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and de‑escalation techniques.
  • Adapt quickly between high‑energy phonics games and calm, sensory‑focused support.
  • Track progress and communicate with teachers and parents.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Practical experience delivering Phonics sessions.
  • Knowledge of phonemes and graphemes.
  • Experience supporting children with SEN; understanding behaviour as communication.
  • Ability to de‑escalate and motivate children with additional needs.
  • Certified or approved for working with children, including a valid DBS check.
Why Join the Randstad Team?
  • Value: Pay rates reflect specialist skills in Phonics and SEN support.
  • Transparency: Weekly pay via PAYE with no hidden fees.
  • Flexibility: Choose how many days to work; app manages your diary.
  • Opportunity: Long‑term placements may turn into permanent contracts for the right candidate.
Next Steps

There is a child in a classroom in Leeds right now who is struggling to read, waiting for someone with your skills to walk through the door. Apply today with your CV or contact the Leeds Branch to discuss how we can find you the perfect role.

Randstad Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
