Contract: Temporary HLTA for one year in the first instance. Term Time Only plus 5 days

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who will also undertake the role of Play Coordinator, providing leadership in the development, organisation and delivery of high-quality play and outdoor learning across the school.

Working under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will be part of a strategic working group responsible for the design and implementation of a new lunchtime and play scheme. This role offers the opportunity to be involved from the outset, including auditing existing school grounds and provision, contributing to planning and decision‑making, supporting the development of policy and practice, supporting staff training and implementing a consistent, inclusive approach to play.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate a full range of play activities during lunchtimes, modelling high‑quality practice and supporting staff to ensure pupils actively engage in and enjoy unstructured times.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a new lunchtime and play scheme, audit existing ground provision, support policy development, staff training and consistent inclusive play provision.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver outdoor learning lessons for whole classes, groups and individuals, aligning with lesson plans and learning objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SLT to support curriculum delivery, adapt learning for pupils’ needs (including SEND), and promote independence, engagement and achievement.
  • Monitor, assess, record and report on pupils’ learning, progress and development; provide feedback to teachers and contribute to pupil reviews.
  • Create and maintain a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment; manage behaviour effectively and promote positive relationships.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Clear Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
  • Proof of identification (passport, birth/marriage certificate, or driving licence).
  • Two referees contacted directly by the school.
  • Subject to online checks and self disclosure form prior to interview.
  • Right to work in the UK; if not a citizen or settled, demonstrate eligibility for Skilled Worker Visa with a salary threshold of at least £41,700.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice, high expectations, continuous improvement, staff development and whole‑school initiatives.
  • Experience in outdoor learning and play coordination is desirable.
