Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours) – Permanent

Location: Leeds, Leeds International Study Centre

Salary: up to £42,335.90 per annum

Leeds International Study Centre and its programmes are provided by Study Group in collaboration with the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University.

You will work with colleagues across the Centre to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programmes in line with our education strategy, broader scholarship and aims for outstanding student experience. You will also contribute directly to student support and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Centre. As a subject lead, you will contribute to the design, development and production of teaching and learning materials and delivery across a range of modules or within a subject area.

The Subject Lead role may also have programme management responsibility of an IY1 programme. The role is supported through remission against overall teaching hours. The amount of remission will be proportionate to the volume of students on programme.

ABOUT

THE ROLE
  • Provide academic coordination for the International Year 1 Business Management programme in the role of Subject Lead.
  • Provide line management and support for a specified group of full-time and /or variable tutors.
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programmes and the student life cycle
  • Supervise progression tracking and similar student outcome‑focused initiatives for IY1 Business Management reporting on these to the Head of Department and Head of Curriculum and Progression.
  • Deputise for the Head of Department when necessary
  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by the centre.
  • Contribute to the delivery and assessment of provision
  • Prepare module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, mark and provide feedback to students
  • Update and maintain the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • Work with the centre’s Student Experience Team and the Registry and Operations Team in the delivery of induction, orientation and registration programmes.
  • Liaise with the Progression, Welfare and Support team to support students in achieving their progression aim.
  • Represent the department at external events e.g enhancement and engagement activities with the partner universities.
  • Liaise and meet with the Link Tutor at the partner university to ensure that quality standards and external oversight are achieved.
  • Engage in scholarly activity to ensure the delivery of modules is current
  • Implement quality assurance procedures at module level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of the programme to achieve high standards
  • Fully use centre systems to log and monitor student attendance
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of student engagement
  • Complete sponsor reports and academic reports for students.
  • Take up opportunities such as (for example) VLE development; peer observation activities.
  • Undertake teaching, learning and assessment observations and associated staff development plans to assure standards within the subject area.
  • Any other duties as required from time to time by the Head of Business and Centre Director
ABOUT YOU
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area.
  • A Masters qualification is desirable
  • Candidates holding a PhD will be particularly welcomed.
  • Experience of teaching in UK higher or further education.
  • A teaching qualification is desirable.
  • Experience of working with international students is desirable.
  • Experience of people and/or programme management is desirable.
  • Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment
  • Ability to operate within quality assurance frameworks or to quality codes
  • Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e‑mail, etc.)
