Position: Clinical Fellow with interest in Endometriosis

Overview

Applicants are invited for posts as Senior Clinical Fellows (ST3-5 equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with an interest in Endometriosis at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Up to three posts are available. The post holder will work at a level equivalent to an ST3+ trainee. Applicants should have Foundation competencies and ideally six months of ST3+ level experience in the UK.

Basic Life Support is essential. Candidates require GMC registration and are encouraged to register and complete pelvic pain SITM. Planned Interview Date: 02/03/2026.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at a ST3+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet career and educational goals. There are opportunities to develop special interests in Endometriosis as a Clinical Fellow (ST3+/ST6+ equivalent) in an BSGE-accredited Endometriosis Centre. The post carries a 60% time allocation with the Endometriosis Team, in addition to: full on-call commitments at LGI or St James s University Hospital (SJUH) and one Antenatal Clinic (ANC) session per week.

Job description and responsibilities

Responsibilities include participation in Endometriosis MDTs and clinics, multi-disciplinary management, audit and research, and teaching. The fellow will be embedded within the Endometriosis MDT and participate in specialist clinics, theatres, and peri-operative planning, with opportunities to contribute to publications and service development.

Working arrangements include:

  • Endometriosis service (60% allocation)
  • Endometriosis theatres with increasing operative responsibility
  • Multidisciplinary management and collaboration with colorectal surgery, urology, pain specialists, radiology, fertility services, and specialist nurses
  • Thoracic endometriosis pathway involvement
  • Research, audit, and service development opportunities
  • Teaching and quality improvement participation

Site and service description to include St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing) and LGI, with related maternity and fertility services at associated sites.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Essential: 12 months post-GMC registration with foundation competencies; evidence of ST3 competencies in Obstetrics & Gynaecology; at least 1 year middle-grade (ST3+) UK experience by start date; evidence of training progression and employment history.

Eligibility, Fitness to Practice, and Language Skills

  • Essential: GMC registration and current license to practise; eligibility to work in the UK;
    Advanced Life Support certificate; post-graduate training to at least ST3 level in obstetrics and gynaecology; up-to-date and fit to practise; demonstrable English skills for medical communication.

Desirable

  • Register and complete pelvic pain SITM

Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

  • Sound clinical knowledge and judgement; ability to manage acutely ill patients; ability to perform lower segment Caesarean Section and non-rotation operative delivery; understanding of research, ethics, audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety and quality improvement; knowledge of evidence-informed practice.
  • Desirable: academic and research achievements, teaching experience and feedback, instructor status in ALS/ATLS/EPLS/APLS or equivalent.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent;
    Foundation competencies or equivalent;
    Basic Life Support within the past 12 months; MRCOG Part 1

Desirable

  • MRCOG Part 2 and Part 3; prizes/distinctions; research/publications
