Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship available from September 2026 for 12months (subject to satisfactory progression) in the Department of Hepatology atSt Jamess University Hospital, Leeds.

Thisis an exciting opportunity to train in one of the leading UK Hepatology centres and contribute to the Leeds Liver Units international reputation for transplantation.

The successful candidate will gain experience in all aspects of Hepatologyincluding the assessment of patients with acute and sub-acute liver failure,assessment of patients for treatments such as liver transplantation and TIPSS,patients with a wide variety of complex general Hepatological conditions andwith viral hepatitis. This is a clinical post and the fellow will join the outof hours rota and have the opportunity to undertake audit and contribute toongoing projects in the department.

The Department is affiliated to the University of Leeds with the MRC funded Centrefor Bioinformatics, the Leeds Institute of Data Analysis and the NIHR funded

Diagnostic Evaluation Co-operative.

Candidates should hold full license to practice withthe UK General Medical.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will contribute to the out of hours rota (1 in 9;resident) on the same basis as other trainees in the department, at registrar level responsibility. This is a single tier rota and appropriate experience inmedical specialty training is highly desirable.

The successful applicant will contribute to the inpatient service delivering careof Liver Transplant and Hepatology patients. They will contribute to the Liver Units medical out of hours rota. There will also be the opportunity to participate in specialty clinics such as viral hepatitis, immune hepatology,primary liver cancer and portal hypertension. The appointee will also contribute to the care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit post liver transplant or because of acute liver failure.

The Department is also expanding its Community Hepatology service and the appointee would also contribute tothis service.

Other opportunities for learning include a weekly radiology meeting, a weekly pathology case conference, the transplant MDT meeting and a weekly training meeting with a wide variety of topics covered over the year.

Hepatology services, viral hepatitis services and a broad range of Hepatology outpatient services.

31st August 2027 in the Department of Hepatology at St Jamess University Hospital in Leeds.

Thisis an exciting opportunity to train in one of the leading UK hepatology centres and contribute to the Leeds Liver Units international reputation for transplantation. The successful candidate will have a research project inhepatology and have the opportunity to gain experience in clinical hepatology.

The fellow will join the out of hours rota with equal participation to other trainees and deliver 2 clinical sessions/week. Research time of 0.4 FTE will be provided. It is suitable for all higher stages of training including out-of-programme training and post-CCT training. Candidates must hold have passed MRCP part 1 and part 2 or equivalent and be wanting to pursue a careerin gastroenterology and ideally, hepatology.
