Location and service scopeHull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides extensive kidney services for a population of 1.10 million across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Acute kidney services are provided centrally in Hull, with weekly outreach clinics and chronic satellite haemodialysis support to Grimsby and Scunthorpe, with fortnightly clinics in Goole, weekly clinics in Bridlington with support to the Bridlington Satellite unit. Inpatient haemodialysis for long-term patients is facilitated at Castle Hill Hospital.
The locally employed doctor will only be expected to work at the Hull Royal Infirmary site.
HUTH NHS Trust provides care for patients both pre and post transplantation. Although the actual transplant episode is carried out in Leeds, the pre-transplant work-up and all post-transplant aftercare at discharge from Leeds is carried out in Hull and its satellite clinics.
Role and supervisionThe successful candidate will work at the equivalent of ST4 or above, supervised by a qualified NHS consultant. The work plan will be tailored to suit the trainee's educational objectives. The locally employed doctor will work in the following clinical areas: the 19 bed nephrology ward (ward 50); the renal outreach team providing supervision of patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) on the ICU and general medical patients on outlying wards;
and outpatient clinics. Procedural duties will include dialysis line insertion and renal biopsies, and full training in these procedures will be given.
All specialist registrars will have an outpatient commitment and have the opportunity to attend Transplant, Transplant Work-up, Low Clearance, Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis clinics as well as General Nephrology clinics. The Consultant working patterns are closely integrated, and a similar level of mutual support and team-working is required from the middle grade staff. You will be part of the on-call medical registrar rota (full shift rota) covering the Acute Assessment Unit, extending into the Emergency Department and covering the Same Day Emergency Care Unit.
