Position: Clinical Fellow with interest in Urogynaecology

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust invites applicants for Senior Clinical Fellows (ST6+ equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with an interest in Endometriosis. Up to three posts are available. The post holder will work at a level equivalent to ST6+ with Foundation competencies completed or equivalent training. Applicants should ideally have 6 months experience at ST6+ level (UK preferred). Basic Life Support training is essential.

Current and valid GMC registration is required, and applicants will be encouraged to register and complete pelvic pain SITM.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for doctors seeking clinical experience at ST6+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet career and educational goals. There will be opportunities to develop special interests in Endometriosis, with a Clinical Fellow in Endometriosis (ST6+ Equivalent) in a BSGE‑Accredited Endometriosis Centre.

The post carries a 60% time allocation with the Endometriosis Team, in addition to participation in full on‑call commitments at LGI or St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH), and one Antenatal Clinic (ANC) session per week. This post is ideal for those wishing to develop expertise in endometriosis and progress towards subspecialist practice, advanced fellowship training, or consultant‑level roles within endometriosis services.

Job description and responsibilities

Job responsibilities

Senior Clinical Fellow with interest in Urogynaecology. The post offers broad experience across obstetrics and gynaecology, with supervision by a Consultant. There are opportunities to develop specialist interests in Endometriosis within a BSGE‑accredited Endometriosis Centre.

Working patterns

The post holder will work on a second on‑call rota (ST6+) with supervision by a Consultant during clinical duties. The weekly timetable includes sessions in antenatal clinic, delivery suite, gynaecology outpatients, theatre, and the emergency gynaecology assessment unit. On‑call frequency is 1 in 9.

Antenatal clinic

  • Conduct initial antenatal assessments, identify risk factors, and refer under supervision.
  • Counsel on investigations, interpret results, and arrange management as needed.
  • Detect and manage common disorders in pregnancy and refer when necessary.
  • Recognise roles of the multidisciplinary team and maintain good communication.

Labour Ward

  • Work with the senior midwife and supervise the care of women in labour.
  • Monitor fetal condition, manage abnormal progress, and assist in instrumental/operative deliveries.
  • Assist in management of third‑stage complications and maternal/neonatal resuscitation.

Gynaecology Outpatients

  • Attend specified clinics and other specialised clinics as possible.
  • Taking gynecological histories, examinations, investigations, and managing common problems (menstrual disorders, infertility, incontinence, menopausal symptoms, infections).
  • Understand cervical screening, management of pre-invasive/invasive disease, and follow‑up.

Gynaecology Acute Treatment Unit

  • Handle referrals, assess and initiate management for early pregnancy and acute gynecological conditions.
  • Participate in acute procedures including miscarriage management, vacuum aspiration, and other listed procedures.

Gynaecology Theatre

  • Observe, assist, or undertake theatre procedures under supervision.

On‑call

Residents will be in hospital during duty hours. Consultant obstetricians/gynaecologists have designated on‑duty times and may be on call from home when not on site. The post complies with New Deal requirements and the European Working Time Directive.
