Weare looking for an individual to fill this replacement post within the Cellular Pathology Department at St Jamess University Hospital.
This is a full time consultant post within the Pathology Clinical Support Unit to support the provision of GI pathologyservices to The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and the region. Thereis also the opportunity to do some specialist Liver pathology as part of thispost.
The GI pathology service currentlycomprises 10 substantive consultants working variable amounts of time dedicated to GI work. As many of the services operate at a regional or national referrallevel, there is a broad and interesting workload ranging from complexendoscopic polyp resections to multi-visceral pelvic exenteration surgery. The service supports three MDTs, which include regional services for advancedcolorectal, anal and upper GI cancers and a gastroenterologyclinicopathological correlation meeting.
The successful applicant should possess FRCPath (or equivalent). They should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview if currently within a training programme within the accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Main duties of the jobLeeds is the regional tertiary unit for liversurgery and one of the larger liver transplant units in the UK, delivering bothadult and paediatric transplants. Liver pathology in Leeds comprises an interesting mix of medical (native and transplant) and tumour pathology,including both biopsy work and resections. There are currently four liverpathologists equivalent to two WTE. They work closely with hepatologycolleagues in providing an acute urgent biopsy service alongside more routinereporting, with regular discussion of cases in a weekly clinicopathologicalmeeting.
They also support and present cases in the weekly hepatobiliary cancer
MDT.

Our departmentworks in a collaborative and flexible way to deliver a sub-specialisedpathology service tailored to the needs of the tertiary centre.
The appointeewill have specialist experience in GI pathology. Thereis also the potential for including some specialist liver work in the role. Wehave developed the principles of the Royal College of Pathologists guidelines to try and achieve full staffing and an equitable distribution of work amongthe consultants in our department.
