Applications are invited for a consultant post within the Regional Neuroscience Centre. Thepost is designed for a Consultant Geriatrician with an interest in stroke medicine however applications from candidates with a background in acute internal medicine(AIM)/general internal medicine(GIM) as well as an interest instroke medicine would be considered. This post is to compliment the growing and dynamic Stroke and Neurology Service. For candidates with AIM/GIM accreditation there will be a requirement to contribute to GIM services In the trust to amaximum of 1.19 programmed activities, The post is for 10 Programmed Activities, however part time applications or job shares will be considered.

Main duties of the job
Toprovide consultant supervision and leadership to the Hyperacute Stroke Unit(HASU) and Acute Stroke Units at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and rehabilitation unit at chapel Allerton hospital (c6)
Towork flexibly in a team assessing and treating all ages of patients with TIAand acute stroke.
Towork cooperatively with the team of staff delivering hyperacute treatments,including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, to ensure effective joint working and highest quality care.
Tosupport the IT infrastructure which underpins the stroke service and facilitate improved clinical governance and SSNAP data collection
To contribute to education and training of staff from a variety of discipline scaring for stroke patients.
Tobe an active participant in all Clinical Governance, Service Improvement and Patient Safety work in stroke medicine.
Toprovide patients and carers with information and support.
Towork collaboratively with the stroke multi-disciplinary team to improve patient flow and facilitate decision making for our stroke inpatients.
Toensure high quality and safe care of stroke patients resulting in excellent clinical outcomes.
To contribute to the care of general medical/elderly patients as per the agreed job plan (for AIM/GIM accredited candidates).

Jobresponsibilities
This is a post for 4 x locum stroke consultants,based at Leeds General Infirmary, 40 hours per week and 1:13 on call rota for hyperacute stroke including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy. For those candidates with GIM/AIM accreditation there will also be a session in GIM/AIMlikely at our other site, St. James University Hospital. Out of hours remote oncall cover is also provided for the stroke rehabilitation unit at Chapel Allerton hospital.

- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely
- MRCP or equivalent qualification/demonstration of equivalent experience
- Sub speciality CCT in Stroke
- CCT in Geriatrics/AIM
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Geriatric and Stroke Medicine
- Must demonstrate higher speciality training in more complex techniques in stroke medicine
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances
