Overview

Required to fill this replacement post within the Diabetes and Endocrinology Department at the St James's University Hospital. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology to join our friendly, expert team. The department provides specialist and regional services to a population far beyond Leeds, delivering high-quality care across a range of complex conditions. Based at the Leeds Centre for Diabetes & Endocrinology, you will also have the chance to contribute to innovative research and education in one of the largest training departments in the country.

The department is renowned for its research excellence, with strong links to the University of Leeds, providing an ideal environment for clinicians interested in clinical or translational research. You will collaborate across specialties with close links to regional centres of neurosurgery, endocrine surgery, cancer care, antenatal medicine, vascular surgery, and genetics. • Assist in the provision of multi-disciplinary out-patient services/clinics in Diabetes and Endocrinology, ensuring a responsive, patient-centred, and high-quality service.
• Contribute to the development and modernisation of Diabetes and Endocrine services to improve capacity and quality for local Leeds and regional populations.
• Develop an area of sub-specialty within Diabetes and Endocrinology that integrates with current Consultant activities and service demand.
• Contribute to the research agenda of the Diabetes and Endocrinology department and develop independent areas of research within the sub-specialty.
• Promote patient and public involvement within the services, including engagement with local and national endocrine patient support groups.
• Provide care as part of General Medical in-patients under the diabetes and endocrinology team, including on-call duties and ward rounds with ward-blocks and potential time off in lieu.
• Contribute to the out-of-hours provision of acute medicine on a rota alongside consultant colleagues from acute and respiratory medicine.
• Participate in education, training, and supervision of staff at all levels; contribute to the design of local and regional diabetes and endocrinology training meetings.

• Essential:
  Demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Diabetes, Endocrinology, General Internal Medicine and relevant sub-specialities.
• Essential:
  Demonstrate higher specialist training in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine.
• Essential:
  Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

• Essential: MRCP or equivalent qualification.
• Essential:
  Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
• Essential:
  Your GMC number must be clearly stated in your application form.

  Eligibility to work in the UK.

  Up to date and fit to practice safely.

  Relevant higher degree.

  Understanding of current issues in the NHS.

  Completion of a recognised training programme in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine.

  Ability to carry out medical research.

  Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.

  Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

• Desirable:
  Previous experience supervising research by junior staff.
• Desirable:
  Attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
