Overview
LEEDS TEACHING HOSPITALS NHS TRUST – TRAUMA AND RELATED SERVICES CSU – Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma & Limb Reconstruction.
The post is designed for a more experienced doctor pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery. Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery at ST3 level and above, be post MRCS, and be post CCT prior to a definitive consultant post. The role begins Monday 6 April 2026 and ends Friday 31 July 2026. The unit has an active academic and teaching programme to which the successful applicant would be expected to contribute.
Responsibilities- Support lower limb reconstruction consultants in theatre, clinics and wards.
- Independent working in selected areas where appropriate.
- Provide teaching and appropriate supervision of junior orthopaedic staff.
- Participate in audit and research projects.
- Attend pre‑admissions clinics and operating theatre lists.
- Manage ward duties, dressings clinics and post‑operative intensive care.
- Draft discharge letters and discuss treatment plans with relatives.
- Initiate and change treatment plans as required.

Person SpecificationQualifications – Essential
- FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics)
- ATLS
- AO Basic course
- Post MRCS or equivalent
- At least 3 years experience after full GMC registration or equivalent
- Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 competencies in medicine or surgery
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Up to date and fit to practise safely and aware of own training needs
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate for effective communication
Qualifications – Desirable
- Basic Ilizarov Course / AO Advanced Course / ECDL
- Previous experience of Ilizarov method
- Evidence of developing independent clinical practice
- Adult trauma work in Major Trauma Centre (last 2 years)
- Research and audit skills & teaching

- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
- Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues

- Aptitude for practical skills, e.g. manual dexterity
