Gallup Hill School is seeking a full time school social worker who excels in crisis management and emotionally challenging situations.
The school social worker under the general supervision of the building Administrator provides students, families, administrators, and staff with guidance and consultation to address personal, emotional, familial, or social issues to help students succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
Qualifications- Must possess or be eligible for CT certification (071)
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required
- Master's Degree in Social Work is preferred
- Two or more years of experience in an elementary school setting
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to communicate effectively with each child
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' behavior management plans
- Conducts individual and group counseling as recommended in a student's IEP or 504 plan
- Develops goals and objectives for students with IEP counseling services
- Coordinates with administrators and staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services
- Serves as a ready resource to students and families to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as liaison between home and school
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping
- Engages family in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators and/or building level administrators
