Ledyard High School is seeking to hire a Learning Lab Para educator to our team of dedicated Paraeducators. Successful Paraeducators demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy when interacting with students, as well as professionalism when representing the school. The Learning Lab Para educator oversees a small, structured study hall to assist students in organizing, prioritizing, and completing assignments for other classes.
The Learning Lab Para educator assumes the following responsibilities:
- Maintains attendance reporting for four rostered sections of Learning Lab each day
- Uses Power School to monitor students' academic progress in their scheduled courses
- Works with students individually, as needed, to assist with work completion
- Makes contact, as needed, with students' other teachers to acquire missing or unfinished work
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students
- Performs any other related duties as assigned
- 33.75 hours, following the school calendar
- Starting pay $17.51 per hour
- Paid time off
- Two years of college credit, an associate's degree or evidence of having passed Para Pro Assessment
- Experience working with students and/or in a school setting a plus
- Strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Genuine interest in serving the needs of students and the ability to operate within the philosophy of the program
- Ability to engage students, work well in small groups and follow teacher instructions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff and others
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work
- Demonstrated competency with High School subject matter
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues
- Works in standard office and school building environments
- May work outdoors in all weather during outdoor student activities
- Travel between schools, or between schools and central office, may be required for certain positions
