Lead Operator
Payment: $20.50 per hour, paid weekly, plus an additional $2.00 per hour shift differential for night shift.

Job SummaryThe Lead assists the Production Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor in all manufacturing processes and procedures. Works in collaboration with employees and the management team to enforce safety and quality policies and procedures as dictated by the company’s handbook. Responsible for assisting with training new employees. The Lead will perform the same labor functions as the workers being supervised to allow employees to take breaks and, when business conditions warrant it, to cover shift needs.
Key Responsibilities- Comply with Heritage Bag’s policies and procedures and safety requirements.
- Aid the plant’s shift Production Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors in all manufacturing processes.
- Observe daily shift operations and report any new developments or concerns.
- Coordinate plant activities with Supervisors to ensure total manufacturing objectives are achieved timely and cost‑effectively.
- Maintain production paperwork and computer work (AX) for the designated shift.
- Train new personnel on existing production protocol, safety, and plant equipment.
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Regularly communicate with maintenance staff about repair and maintenance needs.
- Participate in the overtime resource pool to cover opposite leads as needed.
- Ensure all products produced in assigned areas meet specifications.
- Check all work orders for errors and ensure needed corrections are made.
- Ensure accuracy and thoroughness of QC sheets and check each change‑over for quality assurance.
- Maximize production in the assigned area through machine output rates, runtimes, and proper employee utilization.
- Train employees on techniques and procedures involving equipment to help maximize production.
- Ensure that all proper materials and methods are used in the production process.
- Manage scrap in assigned area: weigh and record data, determine action levels, implement corrective actions, minimize scrap, plan change‑overs, and maintain daily housekeeping.
- Maintain clear communication within the assigned area.
- Occasionally perform labor functions as needed.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in reading work orders and giving instruction; complete and complex setup of extrusion lines.
- Ability to start up extruders, pull and thread webs, and operate press, post‑gussetter, and bag machine or winder.
- Troubleshoot and maintain bag machine, separator, or winder.
- Experience with plant film printing processes, press control knowledge, and cylinder adjustments.
- Full knowledge of the plant’s quality processes (case‑weight monitoring, spot inspections, record keeping).
- Know procedures for removal of finished product, scrap, and unused cartons; weigh, wrap, and log scrap.
- Understand procedures for inspecting finished product skids for labeling, date codes, and tagging.
- 5–10 years of direct blown‑film processing and troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Strong discretion, confidentiality, work ethic, effective communication, excellent scheduled attendance, multitasking ability in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to be certified in CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Physical requirements:
ability to reach overhead, squat, bend at the waist, lift boxes of 60 lbs or more, climb stairs during a 12‑hour shift, tolerate prolonged standing and intense walking, and work in hot or cold temperatures.
