The Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) is a graduate of an accredited engineering program who is actively working toward professional licensure. This role is part of the Civil Engineering Department, which provides high-quality, cost-effective, and timely design services across residential, commercial, multi-family, and infrastructure projects.
The E.I.T. works under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer and contributes to the planning, design, and production of civil engineering projects, while progressively developing technical, project management, and client coordination skills.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform engineering calculations under supervision, including drainage (hydrology and hydraulics), detention pond, storm sewer, water system, and sanitary sewer calculations.
- Develop concept plans and civil layouts for residential subdivisions, multi-family developments, and commercial/industrial projects.
- Contribute to infrastructure design, including storm sewer systems, roadways, water systems, and sanitary sewer systems.
- Assist with due diligence services for various project types.
- Support plan production and work closely with CAD technicians (limited but functional use of CAD software required).
- Prepare written specifications, construction contracts, SWPPP plans and documentation, permit applications, and assist with construction administration services.
- Review and approve shop drawings, product submittals, and RFI’s under supervision.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and governmental agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and client expectations.
- Attend meetings with clients, governmental staff, Planning Commissions, City Councils, and other entities (typically accompanied by a Licensed Engineer).
- Support project schedules, review work for accuracy, and identify when additional time is required to meet deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (graduate of engineering school).
- Actively working toward professional licensure.
- Ability to perform technical engineering calculations related to drainage, stormwater management, water systems, and sanitary sewer systems.
- Knowledge of infrastructure and site development design.
- Experience or familiarity with CAD-type software.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage project timelines.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, consultants, and governmental agencies.
- Willingness to work additional hours when project schedules require.
