POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Screed Operator, you will play a critical role in asphalt paving operations by controlling the screed on the paver to ensure proper depth, grade, and smoothness of asphalt placement. This position requires strong attention to detail, communication with the paving crew, and the ability to make adjustments that maintain consistent mat quality. You'll work closely with the Paver Operator, Foreman, and ground crew to deliver high-quality paving results on roads, parking lots, driveways, and commercial sites.

Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment is preferred, and candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test as part of the hiring process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate and control the screed on an asphalt paving machine to maintain proper mat thickness and smoothness

• Adjust screed settings including crown, slope, and depth to meet job specifications

• Work closely with the Paver Operator to ensure consistent material flow and paving speed

• Monitor asphalt temperature, consistency, and placement to ensure quality results

• Coordinate with the crew to maintain proper joint alignment and mat transitions

• Check grade and elevation throughout the paving process and make necessary adjustments

• Communicate clearly with the Foreman and crew to maintain productivity and jobsite safety

• Assist with daily equipment inspections, setup, and maintenance of paving equipment

• Ensure screed heaters, augers, and related components are functioning properly

• Maintain awareness of surrounding crew members, trucks, and equipment during paving operations

• Follow all ADCCO safety policies, PPE requirements, and OSHA guidelines

• Assist crew members with additional paving tasks when needed to keep the operation moving efficiently

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience operating a screed on asphalt paving equipment preferred

• Strong understanding of asphalt placement, grade control, and mat quality

• Ability to read job conditions and make real-time adjustments during paving operations

• Ability to work in extreme temperatures in a fast-paced outdoor environment

• Must be physically fit and able to climb on and off paving equipment and lift 50+ lbs when needed

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license preferred

• Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends during the paving season
