Overview

An Assistant Manager Quality, under general supervision, supports the development of quality systems and controls for internal manufacturing processes. Develops and improves supplier processes. Acts as a customer representative and customer support contact. Supports the Quality Labs in day-to-day engineering support activities for solving manufacturing problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
  • Lead activity in establishing programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.
  • Lead Activity in the development and implementation of methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material, and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility.
  • Directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality & reliability.
  • Compiles and writes training material, and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Should be pro-actively involved in identifying and leading the improvement process, and promote its use within the facility.
  • Must be fluent in systems such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA’s and QS9000/TS16949 requirements. Automotive background is required.
  • Must possess expert knowledge of SPC and MSA.
  • Actively identify and promote continuous improvement and 5S activities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four year college or university in a related field; and generally 8+ years of related experience and/or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS

Ability to understand and apply basic geometric dimensioning and tolerance. Ability to apply advanced statistical techniques such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Understand design prints.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Must be able to lead and function in a team environment by working with, and cooperating with others.

Must possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to clearly communicate in both written and oral forms with others.

Must be familiar with DOE and fluent in methodical problem solving processes, as well as the 7 tools of quality. Must have the ability to apply these tools to be able to solve complex manufacturing problems.

Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to lead activity is required.
