Nurse ; Registered Nurse

Overview

The position involves providing nursing care and coordinating medical services within the Rehabilitation & Correction setting. The role includes clinical duties, patient assessment, treatment administration, collaboration with physicians and other healthcare staff, and participation in training and quality assurance activities.

• Administers medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular, and intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance
• Performs treatments and assists with nurse’s sick call; assists with doctor’s sick call
• Performs or assists with nursing management of chronic care clinics
• Responds to emergencies, provides emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Conducts subjective and objective patient assessments
• Collects vital signs and timely documents all findings
• Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
• Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities by reviewing patient care, transfer summaries, or release summaries
• Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and timely forwarded to pharmacy services
• Participates in work-related and institution training exercises; provides assistance to other healthcare staff
• Investigates and documents problem areas or areas of concern; reviews shift reports from preceding shifts
• Assists physicians with medical procedures; assumes duties of other nurses during absences
• Counsels/provides education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and disease prevention
• Participates in quality assurance activities; provides training and work direction to new nurses and other staff
• Serves as a resource for healthcare and security staff; provides orientation and training for new personnel
• Serves as lead clinical authority on site in the absence of key supervisory or medical staff
• Participates in group programming and health and wellness initiatives
• Performs administrative duties as indicated; schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
• Assumes duties of shift charge and makes shift work assignments as necessary
• Performs or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies; assists ancillary staff as needed to meet patient care needs

• Requires current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio as issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing
• Starting pay is approximately $92,000 based on location/shift assignments
• Knowledge and skills in nursing, urgent and emergency care, basic medical procedures, medical charting, direct support/direct care, problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, teamwork, and cultural awareness
