Job SummaryResponsible for duties supporting departmental efficiencies, including scheduling, registration, patient pre‑admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions. Must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information and employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Greeting patients following Conifer Standards of Care, providing world‑class customer service, completing full patient registration at date of service, adhering to financial and cash control policies and procedures, thoroughly explaining and securing hospital and patient legal forms (e.g., Advance Directives, Conditions of Services, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA, etc.). Scan protected health information and create file patient information packets for upcoming hospital services;
assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and related tasks. - Educating patients about patient financial liabilities and employing proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service; performing hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial and cash control policies and procedures.
- Securing medical necessity checks/verification in accordance with CMS rules, verifying insurance, benefits, coverage and eligibility, completing assigned registration financial clearance work lists, obtaining insurance authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled hospital services, and securing inpatient visit notification to payors; may also assist with scheduling and coordinating post‑discharge care for patients.
- Typing skills of 35 wpm or more.
- Working knowledge of PC components, printer, and related technology.
- Preferred knowledge of hospital environment functions and relationships.
- Customer service skills and experience.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to receive and express detailed information orally and in writing.
- Preferred understanding of third‑party payor requirements and compliance standards.
- Ability to perform essential duties in at least two patient access service areas, including Emergency Department.
- Negotiation techniques for professional collection of patient/guarantor money owed.
- Collaboration skills with internal and external clients.
- Ability to appropriately interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care.
Conifer requires its candidates, as applicable and as permitted by law, to obtain and provide confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings prior to the start of employment. Education and Experience- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 0–1 year in a customer service role.
- 0–1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area preferred.
- Some college coursework preferred.
- Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
- Resolves physician office and patient issues; may experience high patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
- Occasionally lift/carry items up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
- Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients with mobility problems.
- Hospital administration.
- Can work in patient care locations exposed to life‑threatening patient conditions.
- Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands.
