Purpose and Objectives of Position:

The Lead LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) Technician is part of the LP1 HSE organization, working closely with the maintenance and operations teams. This role provides technical expertise in the development, implementation, and improvement of the LDAR program. The Lead LDAR Technician ensures that all LDAR systems operate efficiently and comply with regulatory standards to minimize emissions and ensure environmental compliance.

This role will be instrumental in developing the LDAR management system and supporting the development of others responsible for maintaining the equipment and processes. As a greenfield site, this role will evolve as the LDAR program matures; from development and startup through steady-state operations. This is an opportunity to grow with the program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the site LDAR program, including procedures, tools, and management systems
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, IDEM, and cGMP regulatory requirements, including NSPS (40 CFR Part 60) and NESHAP (40 CFR Part 63) subparts applicable to pharmaceutical/chemical manufacturing
  • Conduct Method 21 monitoring, OGI (Optical Gas Imaging) inspections, and regular compliance audits
  • Maintain accurate records of LDAR activities including monitoring data, repair logs, and compliance reports
  • Coordinate LDAR activities across production, operations, maintenance, engineering, and external vendors
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for regulatory agencies (EPA/IDEM) on LDAR-related matters
  • Train, mentor, and onboard operations and maintenance personnel on LDAR systems and procedures
  • Lead LDAR training programs in support of plant startup and ongoing team development
  • Support commissioning, qualification, and procedure writing related to LDAR systems
  • Drive emissions reduction initiatives through process optimization, equipment upgrades, and adoption of best practices
  • Support cross-functional projects within Maintenance, Engineering, and Facilities teams
  • Support incident investigations and ensure adherence to safety procedures, policies, and permits
Basic Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification or associate degree in environmental technology, instrumentation, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, refinery, petrochemical, or related industrial manufacturing with a focus on LDAR and environmental compliance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LDAR regulatory requirements (IDEM and/or EPA) and best practices.
  • Experience developing and/or managing LDAR programs
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.
