Overview

The Raw Materials Specialist is responsible for properly sampling and documenting testing of samples and testing results for all inbound raw materials used in the production of our superior specialty food products. This position will perform review of supplier and raw material documentation for potential approval and use at CII Foods. The role will sample and perform physical and chemical evaluations of ingredient samples to ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, quality, certificates of analysis (COA’s), labeling requirements and customer specifications.

This role is responsible for upkeeping existing supplier documentation, reviewing all incoming material COAs, and logging data/documentation. Must utilize software applications to enter data and block or release ingredient receipts and finished goods shipments.

Responsibilities
  • Sample and document testing of inbound raw materials and testing results.
  • Review supplier and raw material documentation for potential approval and use at CII Foods.
  • Sample and perform physical and chemical evaluations of ingredient samples to ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, quality, COA, labeling requirements and customer specifications.
  • Update and maintain supplier documentation, review incoming material COAs, and log data/documentation.
  • Utilize software applications to enter data and to block or release ingredient receipts and finished goods shipments.
  • Communicate effectively with plant personnel, frontline supervisors, and operating managers.
  • Collect ingredient samples safely from multiple shipping container types across a range of temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Perform all required physical and chemical analyses in a timely, accurate and safe manner.
  • Review and validate food safety and quality test results prior to releasing shipments for receipt and usage.
  • Prevent the receipt and usage of ingredient receipts that do not meet specifications.
  • Evaluate information to determine compliance with standards, laws, regulations, customer requirements, or standards.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to achieve goals and implement renovations and improvements to processes and methods.
  • Maintain knowledge of current government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
  • Produce trend reports on all tested ingredients on a pre-defined schedule and as needed.
  • Work with Procurement to ensure adequate lead time on ingredients to accommodate proper hold/release protocol.
  • Report to the Director of Regulatory Affairs.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or lab testing environment preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and adapt quickly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and plan work activities without outside direction, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness with the ability to improve and promote quality and safety.
  • Proficiency in MS Office systems and working knowledge of database systems.
  • Able to efficiently learn new computer software/database systems to keep up with evolving food manufacturing industry.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, or platforms.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, manual dexterity, and to see details at close range and differentiate colors.
  • Ability to listen to and understand spoken words and phrases, communicate information verbally and in writing, and read and understand ideas presented in writing.
  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment.
