The Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention is seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide high‑quality outpatient care in the Cancer Prevention Center and Undiagnosed Breast Clinic. This role includes prevention and survivorship care, patient education, and support for clinical research initiatives, promoting and maintaining patient health across the continuum through clinical practice, education, administrative responsibilities, research engagement, and ongoing professional development.
Ideal candidate: at least one year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider, with a strong preference for oncology and primary care backgrounds, including proficiency in clinical breast exams, pap tests, and prostate exams. The candidate should thrive as a collaborative team player, communicate effectively, embrace feedback, and continually seek professional growth.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Possible schedule may vary based on patient demand.

Location:
1–2 days per week - Texas Medical Center: 2–3 days per week

KEY FUNCTIONS Patient Care- Provides quality patient care based on the patient’s prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development, and other identified needs.
- Assesses health status by performing medical history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment.
- Provides health care throughout the disease process: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative, and terminal care.
- Communicates findings verbally and in writing with patients and families.
- Prevents, minimizes, and manages symptoms, toxicities, and health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physicians and allied personnel.
- Contributes to departmental research by identifying clinical problems amenable to research and collaborating on projects.
- Applies pertinent research to clinical practice.
- Schedules consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, and future appointments in coordination with attending physicians; may need to move between areas of the hospital.
- Monitors laboratory, clinical radiographic, and procedural data for daily rounds; reviews data visually and prepares written information.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice, or waiver if recognized by the Texas State Board of Nursing before 1/1/2003.
- Graduate education and Texas Board of Nursing authorization consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Physician Assistant
- Master’s degree from an accredited PA program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA), unless graduated before 2013.
- At least 1 year in an Advanced Practice Provider role.
- Experience in primary care or gynecology (clinical breast exams, pap tests, prostate exams).
- Prior oncology experience.
Required:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
- Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an APRN (including all related designations), consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
