Advanced Practice Provider; APRN or PA - Breast Medical Oncology - League

Overview

Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Breast Medical Oncology team. This department aims to improve survival of breast cancer patients, generate new knowledge through research, provide patient-centered clinical care, cancer prevention, and education and outreach with the goal of eliminating breast cancer.

The ideal candidate will be a licensed APRN or PA with at least 2+ years of clinical experience, a strong background in Oncology, and a demonstrated commitment to compassionate patient care. Oncology certification is highly preferred but not required.

The schedule for this position is 7am-5pm and based at the League City Houston Area Location.

Patient Assessment/Intervention/Evaluation/Performance of Diagnostic/Therapeutic Procedures

• Provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.
• Conduct health assessment including medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment.
• Conduct inpatient service daily rounds on each patient and report findings to the attending physician.
• Monitor and review findings of laboratory, clinical, radiographic, and procedural data and develop an appropriate plan of care.
• Prevent, minimize, and manage symptoms, toxicities, health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with the physician and other allied personnel.
• Schedule consultations, diagnostic procedures, and facilitate coordination with the attending physician.
• Write prescriptions (if eligible) as needed.
• Provide triage in ambulatory settings for consistent patient care.
• Write chemotherapy orders under the supervision of a physician or verify orders written by physician.

• Educator/Consultant/Research/Non-Essential
• Provide general health education to the patient and family.
• Participate in formal and informal instruction of nursing students, professional nurses and other health professionals.
• Keep current by attending continuing education programs related to the clinical area.
• Assist in development of educational material for use by staff or patient.
• Attend departmental meetings pertinent to the Advanced Practice Provider.
• Contribute to research efforts of the department in accrual to protocols or trials.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow-up and evaluation.
• Recommend therapeutic measures for relief of symptoms.
• Initiate or collaborate in research projects.
• Assist with the implementation of registered departmental research protocols.

Required:

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

• Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an APRN from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.
• Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
