The Utility Maintenance Supervisor I / II fulfills a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the repair activities related to water and sanitary sewer systems. This position is responsible for managing work assignments for maintenance crews and ensuring the availability of necessary parts and inventory for repairs. This is a safety‑sensitive and/or DOT position. Therefore, participation in random drug testing at the city will be mandatory.

- Oversee repair and maintenance activities for water and sewer lines, including managing employee performance, conducting interviews and evaluations, and handling disciplinary actions.
- Determine the best repair methods for job sites, schedule work assignments, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
- Procure parts and materials needed for repairs and maintain inventory levels to support efficient operations.
- Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures to maintain consistency and quality in repair processes.
- Address after‑hours emergencies promptly and effectively to minimize service disruptions and ensure public safety.
- Operate computer hardware, software, and instrumentation essential for managing the City’s maintenance systems.
- Fulfill any other related tasks as necessary to support the efficient operation of maintenance activities.
- Performs all duties of the Utility Maintenance Supervisor I.
- Proficient in executing complex tasks with limited to moderate supervision.
- Assumes second‑level supervision responsibilities within the Line Repair Department when the Superintendent is unavailable.
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
Required:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Driver's License
Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- 4+ yr. experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Class C Water Distribution Operator License
- Class III Wastewater Collections
- Class B CDL w/tanker
Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- 5+ yr. experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Class B Water Distribution Operator License
- Class III Wastewater Collections
- Class B CDL w/tanker
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that offer the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted or assessed at the City’s discretion.
Knowledge of- English grammar, spelling, punctuation
- Departmental policies and procedures, and performance management standards
- Water and wastewater systems line repair practices and procedures, pipe fitting, and water line replacement
- Safety and regulatory compliance for water and wastewater equipment
- Principles and practices of basic records and bookkeeping
- Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
- Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Operating hand tools and heavy equipment, including backhoes and dump trucks
- Inventory management
- Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
- Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments
